Gastric ulcers are one of the most common issues we see in performance horses. But without scoping, they often go undetected. The horse’s stomach is divided into two regions: the squamous (upper, non-glandular) and the glandular (lower, acid-producing). Ulcers typically form along the margo plicatus—the dividing line between the two. In this case, we saw clear ulceration in the squamous region.
