Beavers (Castor canadensis) are North America’s largest rodent. They have several adaptations for an aquatic life. These include nostrils and ear canals that can be sealed off, webbed fore- and hindfeet for swimming, a transparent nictitating membrane that covers each eye, and an upper lip that seals their mouth shut behind the large upper incisors.
