The first President of Uganda and Kabaka of Buganda His Majesty Edward Mutesa. Deposed President of Uganda and Kabaka of Buganda Edward Mutesa II is quoted in an article by Charles L. Sir Fredrick Edward Kabaka Mutesa arrives in Britain after being overthrown by Obote. Mutesa who had three broken ribs after jumping from his palace's wall to avoid capture, walked from Uganda to Burundi from where he applied for asylum to Britain. Ironically Obote was later overthrown by Idi Amin, his loyal Army Officer who led the assault on Mutesa's palace. | Odhiambo Levin Opiyo

Mutesa succeeded his father, Sir Daudi Chwa, and was proclaimed his heir at the tender age of 15. Between 1939 and 1942, he reigned through a council of three regents. His coming of age and assumption of full powers as the Kabaka — on November 19, 1942 — was thus a momentous and joyous occasion in the kingdom. | History of Uganda

The moment I stepped onto Mengo Palace I felt a connection to Edward Mutesa. I had dragonflies at my feet. With his grandson Prince Walugembe. He loved the people, I love the people. He freed them from the British, let’s see how I can help free his people now. They broke my arm and it changed my approach. 👑😘💙 | Martha Hoy

UgHistory on Instagram: "In 1958, a 33-yr Kabaka Edward Mutesa II stood at the forefront of Uganda's turbulent march toward independence. Having already endured exile for defying British colonial plans, his return to the throne had transformed him into the central symbol of indigenous authority and resistance. His visit to the Vatican that year was a calculated diplomatic mission, extending his search for allies beyond the diminishing power of London. Beneath Michelangelo’s dome, the audience wi

The enthronement of Kabaka Edward Mutesa II on November 19, 1942, was a momentous occasion in the history of the Buganda Kingdom, marking the formal beginning of his reign upon reaching the age of majority. The ceremony took place at Budo, the traditional site for the coronation of Buganda's kings, and was characterized by a fusion of ancient Ganda customs and the colonial formalities of the time. Mutesa II, who had succeeded his father Sir Daudi Chwa II in 1939 while still a minor, was official
