A sixth person has died from the Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in New York City, according to city health officials. The latest death came as there have been 111 confirmed cases of the pneumonia-like lung infection across Harlem, with seven people still hospitalized, the New York City Health Department said in an update Thursday.

About one in 10 people who get sick from Legionnaires' disease die from the disease due to complications from illness, CDC said.

Joyce Mack, 60, says ever since contracting Legionnaires' disease, she feels trapped in her apartment by a heavy machine that helps her breathe and in her mind by the fear of losing her life. "I watch TV all night. I will not go to sleep," she said. "I'm scared if I go to sleep, I might not wake up."
