Heather Gerken, Yale Law School’s first woman dean, is stepping down after serving as dean for eight years to become president of the Ford Foundation.

Yale Law School Dean Heather Gerken will succeed Darren Walker as the president of one of the largest U.S. charitable organizations, the Ford Foundation announced Monday.

Darren Walker: As a person who is sometimes in the room, I think one of the things that I do in the room is to talk about uncomfortable truths. And often people in the room are swayed.

“Darren Walker completely transformed how philanthropy looks at disability,” she said. “People really saw it as a side issue, not as part of how we can lift up everyone as part of our shared humanity.
