Senate GOP appropriators want their leaders to bring a package of fiscal 2026 spending bills to the floor before August recess, Chair Susan Collins, R-Maine, said Thursday.
President Donald Trump is one step closer to having Congress officially sign off on a slice of his Department of Government Efficiency’s spending cuts after Senate Republicans agreed TK DATE to cancel $9 billion in funding to foreign aid and public broadcasting.
Senators made numerous changes to the legislation, which targets funding for foreign assistance programs and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Most notably, they removed a $400 million cut to the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
The U.S. Senate early Thursday voted to rescind some $9 billion in federal funding for foreign aid and public broadcasting.
