The Treasury Department's inspector general said on Friday it began an audit of security controls for the U.S. government's payment system, the Associated Press reported, after Democratic senators expressed concern about the access given to President Donald Trump's aide Elon Musk and his staff.

The Musk team has pushed for access to the government’s computer systems and sought to remove tens of thousands of federal workers.
