London Breed's path to becoming San Francisco's first Black female mayor was as "bumpy," as she would say, as her upbringing.

San Francisco saw its lowest crime rates in over 20 years in 2024, according to former Mayor London Breed. Between 2023 and 2024: Reported violent crimes decreased by 14%. Reported property crimes dropped by 31%.

“Elected officials don’t seem to be interested in taking the kind of risk you would have to take as a mayor to choose communities that may not be as vocal, or may not have the biggest voter turnout,” Breed said. “That’s not where people tend to spend their time or take their political risk on.”
