India on Saturday accused Pakistan of violating a ceasefire agreement within hours of it taking effect, reporting gunfire and drone activity along the LoC. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said Indian forces were ordered to respond firmly and held Pakistan responsible for the renewed hostilities.

The first word of the truce came from President Trump, who announced that the two countries had reached a "full and immediate ceasefire," after talks mediated by the U.S.

The sudden announcement of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire followed four days of steady escalation between India and Pakistan and mixed signals from Washington.
