A Kerrville-area river authority executed a contract for a flood warning system that would have been used to help with emergency response, local officials said.

The number of confirmed deaths from the Texas Hill Country floods rose to 95 in Kerr County on Wednesday, Sheriff Larry Leitha said.

Kerr County applied for federal grants to build a warning system to protect residents from flash floods. Under the Trump Administration, that kind of funding is drying up.

As the search and recovery continues in Kerry County, the issue of emergency sirens have become a focus both locally and across teas.

While search crews and volunteers pushed ahead with recovering those unaccounted for, communities in the devastated Hill Country region are just beginning to grieve those lost over the July Fourth holiday.

Hundreds packed Antler Stadium in Kerrville Wednesday to honor Tivy High School soccer coach Reece Zunker and his wife Paula, who were killed as catastrophic floodwaters devastated Kerr County.

Four friends in their 20s – including a couple who have been dating since high school — planned a fun weekend in Hunt, Texas, before the catastrophic floods hit. Now, one remains missing, and the bodies of three of the young adults have been found after days of grueling search efforts.

"I hope that everyone knows, prayers work and God is still out there," Kerrville resident Donna Ragsdale said.
