Because LSU – seemingly Florida’s main competition for college football’s hottest coaching candidate (unless an NFL team suddenly enters the picture) – just launched itself into a swamp of its own making.

The Florida Gators cut ties with Billy Napier on Oct. 19 after starting the season 3-4 with losses to South Florida, LSU, Miami and Texas A&M. Florida entered the year ranked No. 15 in the AP Top 25 Poll with SEC title and national championship aspirations.

The LSU Tigers made their decision at starting quarterback ahead of their Week 12 matchup against Arkansas amid Garrett Nussmeier's injury.
