Boeing said on Thursday it expects Indian and South Asian airlines will add 2,835 commercial aircraft to their fleet over the next 20 years, a four-fold increase over current levels, as a rising middle class and healthy economic growth spur travel.

Boeing projects that South Asian carriers will need 2,835 new airplanes over the next 20 years, driven largely by demand from India. The aviation market in this region is expected to grow rapidly, with aircraft fleet set to quadruple by 2043.

India’s second biggest airline Air India and its youngest Akasa Air together have pending deliveries over 400 Boeing aircraft. Air India has pending deliveries of over 200 Boeing aircraft, while Akasa has an equal number of 737MAX yet to be delivered.
