Vt. lawmakers vote for Rodgers to become lt. governor
Vermont lawmakers on Thursday officially elected Republican John Rodgers as lieutenant governor. The Republican narrowly edged out incumbent Progressive-Democrat David Zuckerman by about 6,000 votes in November’s election.
Rodgers was approved 158-18 by the legislature on the second day of the session in Montpelier, cementing his victory over Independent incumbent David Zuckerman.
Thursday’s election was an unusual but not unprecedented event. Rodgers beat Zuckerman in the November elections, but because neither won more than 50% of the vote, the state Constitution required lawmakers to name a winner.
