As the investigation into the 34-year-old mother from Pontiac, Michigan who police say abandoned her three children continues, crews cleaned up the townhome that investigators say the children lived in for years.

PONTIAC, MI -- Kelli Bryant, the woman accused of abandoning her three children for nearly five years appeared in court Tuesday for a preliminary examination. Bryant, 34, only spoke to confirm her name during the proceedings, while her attorney, Cecilia Quirindongo pressed Judge Cynthia Thomas Walker on a pair of requests related to the case.

Kelli Bryant allegedly left food on the porch of her Pontiac home for her children after leaving them four years ago.

A new bill that would close the gap when Michigan students transfer from one school to another will soon make its way to the state House with bipartisan support.

Authorities say a gap in the school code allowed the children to miss school for years without detection. Lawmakers want to close that gap to prevent other kids from ending up in the same situation.
