Indianapolis Colts' head coach Shane Steichen confirmed on Monday that Phillip Rivers will start in next week's game against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night football. This announcement by Steichen doesn't come as a surprise. In Rivers' return to action against Seattle, he provided needed stability at the quarterback position.
Rivers completed 18 of his 27 passes for 120 yards and led a drive that put the Colts ahead with less than a minute left.
Philip Rivers is 44 years old, the father of 10 kids and a grandfather. Before Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, he had not thrown an NFL pass since Jan. 9, 2021, a playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, instead keeping his football dreams alive as head coach at a high school in Alabama.
The NFL playoff picture continues to form in Week 15, with the Kansas City Chiefs in danger of being eliminated from contention ahead of next week's trip to Nashville. A Chiefs loss to the Chargers combined with wins by three of the Bills, Jaguars, Colts and Texans eliminated Kansas City from playoff contention before Christmas.
