North Korea on Monday condemned joint U.S.-South Korean military drills as a "provocative act," warning of the danger of sparking war with "an accidental single shot," days after Seoul's air force mistakenly bombed a village on its own territory.

South Korea's suspension of some military drills after its fighter jets' accidental bombing of a civilian area may hinder its upcoming annual military training with the United States.

The warning from North Korea’s foreign ministry came as the US-South Korea ‘Freedom Shield 2025’ drills were set to kick off on Monday.

At least 15 people were injured after South Korean fighter jets involved in a live-fire drill dropped bombs on Pocheon, Seoul's military said.

South Korean fighter jets accidentally bombed homes during a live-fire drill with US forces, injuring more than two dozen people on Thursday, Seoul’s military said.

The bombing, which injured nearly 30 people, occurred when South Korean and US forces were engaging in a live-fire drill in connection with their broader Freedom Shield command post exercise set to begin Monday.

The blunder, which injured at least 15 people and destroyed buildings, happened during a test run for combined U.S.-South Korea exercises next week.

Fifteen people were injured in South Korea after bombs dropped by an air force jet landed in a civilian district, damaging houses and a church. "There was a sudden loud roar of a fighter jet, then an explosion rang out," said Oh Moung-su, a 65-year-old resident.

The South Korean military said the accident near the North Korean border occurred during training ahead of Freedom Shield, an annual U.S.-South Korea joint military exercise.

South Korea's Air Force has said one of its fighter jets accidentally dropped eight bombs in the wrong place during a training exercise, resulting in several civilian injuries.
