Hawaiian Electric is starting to safely restore power to various areas of Maui affected by the severe thunderstorms early Friday morning. As of noon, power has been restored to approximately 16,000 customers in parts of South Maui, Makawao, West Maui and Central Maui.

Hawaiian Electric crews are responding to multiple power outages on Maui due to severe thunderstorms passing through the island. The outages impact roughly 21,000 customers in South Maui and parts of Central Maui,

Hawaiian Electric crews are still working to restore power to approximately 2,000 customers in pockets of Kihei and the Nahiku area.

The total number of customers still without power is 3,474 and the total number of outages that have been reported is 43, HECO announced. Hawaiian Electric is starting to safely restore power to various areas of Maui affected by the severe thunderstorms early Friday morning.
