League is over. The Hornets won the popular and essential summer league event with an 83-78 victory against the Kings.
Jack McVeigh led the Hawks with 20 points. Kobe Bufkin and rookie first-round pick Asa Newell contributed matching 14-point, two-assist tallies while pulling down six and eight rebounds, respectively. Newell added two steals and two blocks. Kobe Johnson furnished 12 points, four boards and two assists.
The Charlotte Hornets clinched their first NBA Summer League Championship, defeating the Sacramento Kings 83-78, achieving a perfect 6-0 record. Kon Knueppel, despite playing with stitches, earned the MVP award with 21 points.
The Memphis Grizzlies dropped their second consecutive game, losing to the Atlanta Hawks in the summer league in Las Vegas.
Jackson Rowe led the Warriors with 14 points, and rookie Will Richard was a two-way standout with 12 points and two steals. After scoring 22 against Utah, Gabe Madsen put in seven points on 3-of-3 shooting in Golden State’s second consecutive victory. The Warriors will take on Toronto at 7 p.m. PT on Thursday.
PJ Hall signed a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies July 20. His deal came after a strong performance in the NBA's Summer League.
