ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. — The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office has reopened Paris Road in Chalmette after temporarily shutting it down due to a fire at WB Scrap Metal. Crews are working to contain the fire. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes until further notice.

Crews were on scene working to douse the fire at WB Scrap Metal at 5000 Paris Road as of 5:30 p.m., according to Kim Gritter, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office. Paris Road was closed for about an hour in both directions and motorists were asked to avoid the area before it was reopened at about 6:30 p.m., Gritter said.
