On Tuesday, the Newtown Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority board voted 3-2 to halt plans to build its own wastewater treatment plant in Newtown Township.
The $228 million plant is in addition to $1 billion in sewer infrastructure projects planned in Suffolk in the next three years, County Executive Edward P. Romaine said.
At a public meeting on Feb. 12, the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors publicly opposed the project, and directed the township manager to recommend the joint municipal authority stop the project.
