On July 28, 2026, in the Kiponza area of Chamazi Ward, Temeke District, Dar es Salaam, a python being transported from Mipeko to the city centre for undisclosed activities escaped from a box.

Burmese pythons — destructive invasive snakes with few natural predators in Florida — have developed a new foothold outside the Everglades.

Experts believe the snake, an 8-foot-long Burmese python, indigenous to Southeast Asia, not native to New Jersey or the U.S. Northeast, is an abandoned pet. The timber rattlesnake colors vary. Some are yellow or brownish and some are black and grey.

The Burmese python has become the defining ecological problem of the Florida Everglades, a giant constrictor from Southeast Asia that has established a self-sustaining wild population across the southern tip of the state.
