Mark Carney will be sworn in as Canada’s next prime minister on Friday, marking the final day of Justin Trudeau’s more than nine years in power. Governor General Mary Simon will preside over the swearing-in of Carney and his cabinet ministers, her office said in a statement.

Canada’s Governor General, or the King of England’s representative in the country, said the ceremony would also involve the swearing-in of a new cabinet.

Canada’s next leader is a relative political newcomer, coming instead from a decades-long career in finance where he steered governments through major global crises and periods of upheaval – experience he’s hoping to now leverage as he prepares to take over from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
