Amazon.com AMZN -0.53% is in talks to invest up to $50 billion in OpenAI, according to people familiar with the matter, in what would be a giant bet on the hot AI startup.

Amazon said Wednesday it was slashing another 16,000 jobs across the company in an ongoing bid to restructure the sprawling trillion-dollar firm.

Amazon said this week that it was closing almost all of its Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh locations within days as it narrows its focus on food delivery and its grocery chain, Whole Foods Market.

Amazon announced that it will layoff around 16,000 workers.

The company added that it planned to convert some of its closing Fresh locations into Whole Foods Markets as it pushed to open 100 more stores in the next few years, according to the release.
