Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the UK would formally recognize a Palestinian state by the United Nations General Assembly in September if Israel does not stop its war in Gaza.

Recognition affirms the Palestinian people’s entitlement to self-determination under international law, which the vast majority of the world’s nations already uphold. But if this recognition is not tied to real measures to end the war on Gaza and dismantle the occupation,

France and Canada have promised to formally recognize Palestine at the U.N. General Assembly in September. The U.K. will join them if Israel doesn’t agree to a ceasefire with Hamas.
