Jordan Henderson has been stripped of the Ajax captain's armband amid his attempts to force a move away from the Dutch club. The former Liverpool midfielder was relieved of his duties as skipper for the Europa League match against Galatasaray after expressing his desire to transfer to Monaco.

Jordan Henderson is in talks over a free transfer from Ajax to Monaco. The former Liverpool captain, 34, is understood to be keen to make the switch before Monday’s transfer deadline. Monaco are in the market for an experienced midfielder and want to sign Henderson, but are unwilling to pay a fee because of his age.

However, the Englishman's time in the Middle East lasted only six months as he made a swift return to European football by signing for Dutch giants Ajax in January of 2024.
